Follow-up Comment #1:

displays PSPP with nothing loaded; it doesn't display the information of the

I don't know what "launching the program in the process of opening a file"
actually does.  I suspect that it runs PSPPIRE with the file name on the
command line.  If that's the case, then this is fixed on the "master" branch. 
On that assumption, I'm closing this bug report.
