Follow-up Comment #1, bug #30812 (project pspp):
It works for me. But it does take a very long time to complete > 10mins on
my laptop. During this time the GUI is unreponsive.
Concurrent GUI and engine operation is the subject of bug #20823
Obviously importing a xml file is not a sensible operation.
