Follow-up Comment #19:

I pushed a patch similar to iow-crash.patch (although I hadn't read this bug
report at the time and so it was independently developed, which is why the
commit doesn't credit John) to master on Thursday, so I think that that
problem should be solved.

I am somewhat confused about whether this is the only problem actually tied to
this bug report now.  But since new bug reports have been opened related to
other aspects of this problem, I'm going to assume that this bug is fixed.  If
I'm wrong, please re-open this bug with an explanation of what remains to be
fixed.
