Details:

I tested this on MacOS with the new sheet widget 0.1

Open psppire 
Go to Data View
Click on the first row first column
Type Data, Finish editing with RETURN

 - Cell remains empty white
 - No new variable is created
 - Error message: "** (psppire:82558): CRITICAL **: myreversefunc: assertion
'variable' failed" is shown

Once I have created the first variable, the same holds for the first empty
column.

In addition I cannot select other cells than the cell in the first row of the
first empty column. So I cannot focus/edit the cell in the first empty column
but with row 4 for example.

When a cell with valid data for a valid variable is selected, then I can only
select cells in the next empty column. But once I select the next empty
column, then I can select cells in any of the remaining empty columns and edit
data there. However no new variable is created.

In addition non existing variables "var" are shown while in the
non-sheet-widget version this space is empty (see screen shot)
