I ran the check as root. I would have thought that would have sufficient privileges. I am intending to install this on a cluster with hundreds of users. It would be odd for me to build this in a user home directory. Will they each need their own copy in their home directory? Daniel

maybe you could try to build pspp in your home directory with normal user priviliges?
