Can you say which version of pspp you use and how you start it? Do you
use the macports version or the dmg bundle? It is in any case related to the
language settings on your Mac. Can you open a terminal and type env and
check the setting for the LANG variable? On my computer the setting is

LANG=de_DE.UTF-8

which is the setting for german language. Can you also type „locale“ in the
terminal? For me that gives:

Fredo:Desktop fritz$ locale
LANG="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_CTYPE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
