That's ok, thank you. I'm getting ready to teach a lot of new students PSPP in lieu of SPSS (online semester means they don't have computer lab access- looking forward to getting PSPP out there.
The SPSS implementation of this works quite well and could serve as a template- it's the find/replace function in it where you just hit ctrl+F and it'll let you search through variable names/ labels (whichever column you've selected, I think. Here's a video of it in action (

However, for my functions, even just a "search labels" or something similar would be very helpful for just navigating through a foreign dataset and finding relevant variables. That said, I'm going to also teach them to use codebooks the old school way, so this isn't a dealbreaker either way.
