Simpy saying "did not work" isn't useful information. - it could mean almost
anything.
It could mean that the computer fails to boot. It could mean that it failed to
install. It could mean that it crashed on startup ... It could mean that it
lounged around in bed all day.

This is a slightly better report, because you have described - albeit vaguely -
the nature of the problem.
However it's not clear (at least not to me) *why* the syntax file cannot be
edited.

I hope so too, but with such a vague report I don't think there will be
