            (DESTDIR): This variable is not specified to the configure
            script.

            * standards.texi (Configuration): Document that `configure'
            should accept arguments of the form `VARIABLE=VALUE' and why
            they are preferable over environment variables.

rms accepted this change, and I've installed it.
