We can't assume that coreutils is installed. Lots of people build
with the standard system tools for the system being installed on.
As an extreme example, we can't assume 'shuf' (recently added to
coreutils). 'fold' and 'cut' are not nearly as extreme as that, but
they do tend to be less-used in portable software.
