I saw a similar failure for a directory where I bootstrapped on a Linux
box a couple weeks ago, then today updated gnulib, and rebootstrapped
without a `make clean'. The problem was that lib/stdio.h wasn't being
regenerated with the changed value for the configure fflush test. Once I
removed config.cache and lib/stdio.h, then rebuilt, the error went away.
Perhaps this is your problem?
