It has worked perfectly until yesterday, and it so happens that
GNUlib saw som alteration to the getcwd module the very same day!
I cannot say with certainty which working GNUlib commit I had
before pulling in the latest versin yesterday afternoon.
I will back track the failure more, but the two culprits were
named in the first message. We have not changed any relevant
code in our FTP client (which triggered this error) for quite
some time.
