Confirmed:
$ echo $'xa4xb3xa4xb3' | LANG=ja_JP.EUC-JP grep $'xa4xb3'
ここ
$ echo $'xb3xa4xa4xb3' | LANG=ja_JP.EUC-JP grep $'xa4xb3'
海こ
$ echo $'xb3xa4xb3xa4xa4xb3' | LANG=ja_JP.EUC-JP grep $'xa4xb3'
$
Cannot happen with UTF-8 because of how the encoding is done.
