I am very happy to hear that you think this is interesting. I would hope to get the time to learn better C soon, but probably not the next half year. If someone wants to start looking into it before that, I will of course answer questions about the code or the paper.
Also, for legal reasons you and your employer would need to sign papers granting copyright to the Free Software Foundation; is that doable?
