Update of bug #55155 (project groff):
Category: Device - others => Core
Status: None => Confirmed
Summary: .tr is overzealous in nroff output => [troff] .tr is
applied to the RHS of .char definitions

Follow-up Comment #5:
This is a core issue, right down deep in src/roff/troff, and is not, as I
understand it, device-specific in any way. tty-char.tmac simply makes it
visible.
It might demand a good deal of thought.
I threw '.trin` instead of `.tr` at the problem, not really thinking it would
help (the problem is not the encoding of input characters), and it did not.
