despite the glyph is defined in a special font => [grops] \(va fallback
character overrides glyph available in S font

Follow-up Comment #1:
You are correct, but you must be using a different Symbol font than I am
because the overstriking is _not_ apparent to me even in 36-point type.

It seems that a lot of the character definitions in ps.tmac should be
reviewed.
