Michal Vyskocil submitted a patch for similar functionality in 2011
(http://lists.gnu.org/r/bug-groff/2011-09/msg00002.html). Werner raised a
couple of points that he felt would need to be addressed to integrate the
patch, and as far as I can tell there was no more follow-up about it.
