There seems to be a problem in bootp not working when using
the WD/SMC NIC driver. I tested this on several machines that
have a WD/SMC ISA NIC using GRUB 0.96.1 or 0.97 from CVS. On a machine
that has a 3COM 90x PCI NIC all went fine.
GRUB does recognize the WD/SMC NICs correctly with the right memory
addresses but when running bootp the only answer is "sleep".
I checked out the ethernet packets GRUB was sending with a sniffer
and in deed only junk arrived to the server (something like
"fragmented IP packet" with bogus IP and MAC addresses).
Peter.
