devfs & grub

I use a distribution that mounts a devfs file system on /devices
I am unable to configure grub using:
setup --prefix=/boot/grub --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 /devices/discs/disc0/disc
It does not recognize the device. Can grub be modifed
so that it can recognize a block device, because it is
a block device and not by it's name please?
