I too have had sucess using GRUB with XFS.  Acutally, I have success with
GRUB/XFS on a software RAID1 configuration.  

I thought the xfs and jfs patches were part of GRUB after 0.90 but the link
mentioned in the this thread will point you in the right direction.  BTW if
you are using Debian Sid, the GRUB package contains the patches.
