Well,
I have grub booting from a CD-ROM using an Eltorito image. Once I had the
boot floppy setup the way I wanted it (include the grub bootloader) I
used mkisofs with the -b option to create the image. I then burned the
image to a CDR.
As long as your CDROM drive supports eltorito CDs (most do) then you
should be fine.
