I hear ya! However, there are a lot of Slackware users out there.
AND, we don't know that this problem is unique to Slackware. That
being the case, I'm just suggesting that, a simple way to short
circut a lot of questions and confusion would be to test for the
availability of 'cmp' in configure. FWIW.
