Details:
GRUB version grub-0.96-r2 (via Gentoo)
GRUB menu is not visible on the screen. Only a black screen is displayed.
The menu options are available if you select them in the blind. System boots
fine (if you guess the right OS to boot).
After selecting the OS to boot the screen text becomes visible showing the
boot up process.
I tried installing GRUB via grub-install and manually and it made no
difference in symptoms.
PC has 2 video cards installed. One is native on system board but is not
used and displays no video at any time. The main one is Nvidia based.
