Follow-up Comment #2:

For loading ELF (.ko) you need to use kfreebsd_module_elf. kfreebsd_module is
for e.g. mfsroot and then it's used as:
kfreebsd_module <FILE> type=mfs_root
If your problem persists with kfreebsd_module_elf be sure to load all
required dependencies. If the problem persists open a separate bug.
