Follow-up Comment #2, bug #37836 (project grub):

while trying to install some grub i switched several times between grub and
grub2 (apt-get install grub and apt-get install grub2). with both grub setups
i was unable to install grub. later i'll be able to report the errors i get
with grub2 (if you say that's not grub2).

as far as i remember the other grub-install also produced the same error
though.

the os is mint 14, freshly dowonloaded from their website, so it's pretty
up-to-date
