Details:
It is counter-intuitive that issueing
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
compiles for i386 on a x86_64 machine (Ubuntu 14.10 amd64) rather than
x86_64.
It'd be helpful to explain the difference between platform and target in
`./configure --help`.
