I needed to reboot my home machine to a different OS.
This was the first time I had to do this remotely.
Grub was set up by Ubuntu for me, so I know little about it. I searched online
for how to do this and found the *grub-reboot* command.
I could not get it to work as I could not work out what the *MENU_ENTRY*
parameter should be.
I read *grub-reboot --help*, *man grub-reboot* and searched online but I
couldn't find a reliable way of listing the entries.
Instead I found various cobbled-together shell scripts, but these listed the
OS I had to boot into with a different index.
There's also a documentation shortcoming here in *man grub-reboot* and
*--help* where there's no mention if *MENU_ENTRY* is 0-indexed or 1-indexed.
It would be particularly valuable to have either:
* A *--list* option to display available *MENU_ENTRY* options.
* Pointers in the documentation on how to list these options if this feature
is already covered by other tools.
This would have saved me from having to travel two hours for a reboot.
This usability issue also seems related to bug #56339 where, for maximal
difficulty of use, the menu entries themselves are not validated. This linked
bug contributed to some of my struggles too.
If it helps, this is the version I'm running:
$ grub-reboot -V
grub-reboot (GRUB) 2.12~rc1-10ubuntu4
