Details:

This small patch fixes a long-standing problem when building on Windows with
MinGW port of gcc:

Thanks to Danny Smith for suggestions (my previous work-around was much more
convoluted):

Apply this patch and run ./autogen.sh to rebuild configure script and other
files.
