Regarding signatures, have you had a look at spki style signatures and
delegations/certificates? I have some code for handling them, see
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~nisse/libspki/ (although that page seems a
bit outdated, version control links should go to
http://git.lysator.liu.se/lsh/lsh/trees/master/spki, not to the old cvs
tree).
