Hi,
A PowerPC port of the Hurd is in the works; in fact, I'm compiling a
part of it as I write this 8-) . The bad news is, however, that a)
there is no binary release yet (I'm planning to make a very small one
soon), and the source code is not yet integrated into the main
distribution, and b) the PowerPC port will probably not work on the
iMac (it uses the OSF Mach kernel, which supports only older Macs). A
project has just been started by José Marchesi <jemarch@gnu.org> to
port the OSKit, which should give us drivers (from Linux) that do work
on newer Macs. Unfortunately, it's still too early to tell when a
working version of the Hurd for the PowerPC will be ready.
Thanks,
Peter
