That patch updates some files to linux-2.0.40's versions. I'd volunteer
to prepare patches to update other files as well--if someone assures me
that my work will get applied.

The error can be reproduced by "fdisk /dev/hf0". Giving:
linux/dev/glue/block.c 547 (rdwr_partial): assert(*resid <= c);
