It's delusional to think that the problems of the Hurd are related to
a choice of the version control system.

I am fine with switching to SVN, and I agree with you that using this
as a backend for any of the major DVCS is a good compromise.
It would be a good idea to have SVN running on the Hurd before
switching. Also, I checked out savannah and could not find the option
you mention above.
