OK. I saw this as well. One one system. On another one it works just
fine. The system where it doesn't work has git version 1.4.4.4, the
system where it does work has git version 1.5.3.3. Updating your git
version should solve this problem.

The `heads/master' file indeed was missing after the ``git repack''.
Doing one commit to the repository restored it.
