part-time, but this means only registering for half the required amount
of units.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 15

We start accepting applications October 1st. We only admit students
for the fall quarters.

TUITION AND FEES

Fees: $5,443.50 (CA res)
Fees & Tuition: $16,765.50 (non-CA res & intl students)

CA residents pay fees only. Non-CA residents and international students
pay both fees and tuition. Prices are for the entire academic year.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
During 2001-2002, the Department was able to fully support each *PhD* student
admitted into the program. While we can not guarantee support for
100% of our students in the future, we continue to search for funding
sources for all PhD graduate students.

MS students may have the opportunity to work with local companies
through part time internships and apply for teaching assistant
positions.

International students should not expect to be funded unless they are
officially notified in writing. Those students who receive a teaching
or research assistantship will have fees (and probably tuition) covered.
You should be aware that stipends earned in this way may not entirely
cover all living expenses. Due to visa restrictions, there are very
limited opportunities to work off campus.

First year PhD applicants who are offered financial assistance are usually
offered Teaching Assistantships. The University of California, Irvine
requires International students to pass the Test of Spoken English (TSE)
with a minimum score of 50 before they will allow you to be a TA. If you
have not taken the TSE, please plan to do so as soon as possible. The
University will not process Visa applications without proof of having
passed the TSE (if you have been offered a teaching assistantship).
Information about English language proficiency requirements for
International Student Teaching Assistants can be found at:
http://www.rgs.uci.edu/grad/students/esl_tests.htm

The total amount needed for a nine month period for a single student is
approximately $28,000. All students, once accepted, must show proof that
they have that much money for the first year.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
All International applicants are expected to submit the following:

        - A completed application
        - Payment of the $60.00 application fee
        - Official GRE scores (official copy, no photocopies)
            score good for 5 years
        - 3 letters of recommendation
        - 2 official copies of transcripts (translated into English)
        - Official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Scores
            score good for 2 years
        - Official TSE (Test of Spoken English), for International students
who expect to receive financial assistance.

Note: The general GRE is a requirement. The subject GRE is only a recommendation
for students who do not have a BS in CS or a related field.

Domestic students:
-All the above except for the TOEFL and TSE.
