Right. I removed everything and to test things out again.

When "inspecting" the process in the OS X "Activity Monitor.app", it
seems to go through a bunch of fonts in /System/Library/Fonts, and
then gets stuck on /System/Library/Fonts/LastResort.ttf

The equivalent is DTrace (was KTrace before OS X 10.5 Leopard).
Unfortunately, I don't know how to use it. What should I do?
