I currently use a macro __FILE__ that contains the filename of an included
makefile (including the path). I then use this to create "namespace"-scoped
variables (eg $(__FILE__).foo := bar).
If votes mattered, I would vote "Nay" on this request.
Are you able to "quote" these special characters such that they would be
interpreted the way you'd like?
