Hmmm. I didn't consider that case. Thanks!I recently replaced all of my ?= where I expected that a variable may be set in the command line by :=, just because I noticed that I could set it anyway in the arguments and it would work equally fine, so := would probably simplify make's (and the human parser's) checks, but this case seems a valid argument for ?=.
