Hmm, one issue with luit is that it doesn't interpret Save Cursor and Restore Cursor (ESC 7 and ESC 8), which are supposed to save and restore the character set shift state.
So adding luit to a "UTF-8 vt220 emulator" is not quite enough to look good in vttest.
In practice I would guess few applications rely on this (I hope). -Keith
