Hi ,
I have a problem with GNU tar or gtar program ..
It has been installed on SCO UNIX Openserver v 5.0.5 (Rel 3.2)
Thar gtar program backs up the file properly when used as below ..
gtar -cvZP --file=/dev/rct0 /usr4
/dev/rct0 is our DAT device .
It takes the backup of the whole /usr4 filesystem compressing the files
first .
The P qualifier is used to save the absolute path information of the file .
v qualifier lists the files processed as the backup proceeds .
There is no error message during the backup operation
But when we try to list the files on the DAT .. It gives an error messeage
as below ..
gtar: Hmm, this doesn't look like a tar archive
gtar: Skipping to next file header
gtar: Skipping to next file header
gtar: Skipping to next file header
\236\300\024\240\b0
gtar: Skipping to next file header
gtar: Skipping to next file header
.
.
The commands used for listing the files in the archive were ..
gtar -tv --file=/dev/rct0
gtar -t -v -f /dev/rct0
gtar --list --file=/dev/rct0
Is there any help in listing(and hence extracting) the files on the DAT ..
Thanks
J.K Sah
