Following are a few observations from using GNU
Tar v1.13 with Windows XP Service Pack 1.
1. Access to stdout is not allowed therefore using
-O or -f - is not possible and causes the program to terminate. This
prevents any form of piping (e.g. to gzip) from being used.
2. When archives created on a Windows XP system
are extracted to a UNIX/Linux system, directories do not maintain the X in
their permissions and become inaccessible. All directories are then
required to be chmod'ed to add the X to their permissions to be
usable.
I hope that the information above is of some use
to you in making this great program even better.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any
questions regarding the above or if you would like any additional
information.
