Sorry, I didn't understand your suggestion. Would you prefer that
I cut 1.16.1 now, or do you think it's better to wait until after
you flush your local changes?

Is that actually the preferred semantics? I would have thought that
people would want the directory entry itself to be absent. (But I
don't know the context.)
