I cannot reproduce the problem when running on Solaris SPARC on an NFS
file system, which is one of the kinds of systems you reported test
failures on. I built tar 16.1 with Solaris 10 Generic_118833-36, Sun
C 5.8 Patch 121015-04 2007/01/10 (in its default 32-bit mode), with
the patch I mentioned at
<http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2007-03/msg00006.html>.
All tests passed up through 54 (I gave up at that point, as test 55 is
waaaay too slow over NFS).
So I suspect that you'll have to debug this one yourself. Possibly it
has something to do with your NFS servers.
