Hi Dustin,
Thanks for your response. We have been using this utility successfully
with our product, using the same parameters. We never faced any issues
for the past few years and we are using the same Tar utility as well. I
tried executing the utility through command line, using the same command
and it was successful. Can you please let us know, on what all occasions
does the Tar utility return this particular error message? 
We are keen in knowing why such an error was never displayed so far, and
it seemed to have occurred only on one particular server which we used.

To my knowledge, tar does not support windows file sharing strings
(\\server\filename).

I'm frankly a surprised that such a large team of folks couldn't figure
that out, particularly since you included a link to the documentation in
the first email.
