G''day all,
I am creating a tar acrhive that is spooled to LTO3 Tandberg Storage
loader
tar -v -F/se/bin/change_tape.pl -b512 -cf /se/backup/dev/26803_tape --
same-permissions --totals --index-file=/se/backup/log/
Tuesday_2010-11-30:21:00:03_l0_tar.idx --exclude=/se/backup/
incremental_exclude.lst --newer-mtime='2010-11-27 08:57:48' /dsk1 >/se/
backup/log/Tuesday_2010-11-30:21:00:03_l0_tar.log 2>&1
It spans 9 tapes of about 4.4TiB
I have a file on tape 4 that I want to recover and I can't
I mount the tape, do
t:/restore# tar -Mxf /se/backup/dev/tape0 --wildcards '*SANY007*.MP4'
tar: se/data/Tmp/d/_mbv/GT/Final Outputs/Ep1end.avi: Cannot extract --
file is continued from another volume
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: *SANY007*.MP4: Not found in archive
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
If I put the previous tape in the drive and start from there, then swap
when asked it works.
Is this because it is a different tape or because a file starts on one
tape and finishes on the next, thus getting the error?
The end result is it takes ages to recover a file from tape.
It seems that around 1.15.1 is when it changed.

You need only two tools. o /////
A hammer and duct tape. If it /@ `\ /) ~
doesn't move and it should, > (O) X< ~ Fish!!
use the hammer. If it moves and `\___/' \) ~
shouldn't, use the tape. \\\
