Well it probably needs partially full tape (in this case DDS3) where the file 
will spread over three tapes than. The experiment I tried  - to create new 
archive on clean tape - indicates this as it worked until end of tape and then 
asked for second tape, but I did not continue. I can try this theory with 
another huge file (1080p movie), but not now as I am not physically close to my 
NAS.

However if you have DDS3 tapes and want to try, here is the file:

It has 100/100 connectivity so downloading shouldn't be so painful :-)
