Thank you for writing and for all the detailed information about
Japanese.

Texinfo has @documentencoding and @documentlanguage commands now.  It
does not seem like it should be *too* hard to use them to change
makeinfo's rules for parsing the input and producing the output, but
it's a long way from easy.  (And I have basically no clue how to do the
TeX output either, but you didn't ask for that. :)

However, I don't see any prospect that I'll be able to do this myself
any time soon (if ever), and no one else is working much on makeinfo
these days.  (I put it on the TODO list, but that list is
extraordinarily long.)

So, could you follow rms's suggestion and post the suggestion somewhere
that Japanese free software hackers are likely to see it?  I'll
certainly be happy to install any workable patches to support it.
