Hi,

At least with the library packages i was asked to keep the build stuff
verbous for the logs of automatic package compilers like Debian's buildd.

I'm not new but never tried to grok the fundamentals. Cargo cult works.

An "Autotools Mythbuster". Shall that mean i may not build configure.ac
tests from palm leafs and use Makefile.am program lists as landing strip ?

Well, i hopped over it looking for more revelation about the ideas behind
the M4 empire that produces portable shell code and build tool runs.
"M4sh" looked promising, but actually it only looks like a competitor
to super-portable constructs like
      if test x$has_acl_h_but_no_libacl = x1

So for now, i offer AM_MAINTAINER_MODE as sacrifice to the autogods
in order to apologize for my disrespectful attempt to explore their ways:

"Disabled autotools macro AM_MAINTAINER_MODE on advise of Ross Burton"
