Originally the autotools integration is by Doug Quale, with additions
by various people. I just learned enough to maintain the scripts
(badly). I despise the whole stuff, but admittedly it works quite ok.
If I were to start again, I'd not use it. I think that's the rational way to
proceed.

I do a bit of MSVC testing, but only the absolute minimum. I plan to
get rid of my last Windows installation as soon as possible.
BTW, IMO why not use the free Windows tools? You can download
the Core SDK and command-line tools from Microsoft (yes, it's a bit
of an ordeal) and I must say that the microsoft compiler, linker and
other tools work fine.
There is a vctk-install.txt file in the Chicken distro that explains how
to get and set up the whole mess, many thanks to Andre van Tonder
for trying this, BTW.
