I tried building 3.4.0 on Solaris 11.3/Sparc using the same options that 
successfully built 3.3.9.  The following undefined symbols resulted.

DDD 3.3.9 built successfully with Solaris Studio 12.4.  I tried that and 
gcc 4.8.2 with the result above.
