Follow-up Comment #1, bug #27351 (project denemo):
This "style" could also affect changing the duration of a note to a shorter
value. For example, in edit mode if you change a quarter note to an eighth
note it could replace the quarter note with two eighth notes. And likewise if
making a note longer it could swallow up notes on the same step of the scale
that follow, so preserving the correct amount of beats in the measure.
This sort of thing would be particularly useful in vocal work where each note
represents a syllable, and changing the words requires dividing the note up.
Composers also may have the basic structure there but want to edit within the
measure, keeping the overall beats in the measure fixed.
I've called this a "style" to distinguish it from the modes (Edit and Insert
mode etc). I think we can think of the Audible Feedback option as a "style" as
well (all these are in the Mode menu).
So this "style" of entry would be one that tries to keep the number of beats
in the measure correct by adjusting things as you make changes.
Any suggestions for a good name for this "style"?
"Constant Bar Length" (or is that "Constant Measure Length" in American?) or
"Consistent Bar Lenth"
or
"Even Measures"
(short, but perhaps misleading, you can switch timesigs...)
or....
